Job Specification

An opportunity has arisen for a Machine Shop Toolsetter at our Stoneywood facility in Dyce.  The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing tooling for Machining operations, assisting with setups as directed by the Supervisor, and assisting with fettling of components as required.  They will also be responsible for setting up the tool store with Lean objectives working towards standardisation of tooling to work with CNC Programming and supervision to maximize work shop efficiency and output.  As this is a newly created role, the successful candidate will be able to develop and grow the role as DQ transitions to a Centre of Excellence. Please note that this is an onshore only position and previous CNC Machining experience is required.

The main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and setting tools for Horizontal Borers and Turning Centres as directed by Supervisor
  • Co-ordinate with Programming supervisor to have AT tools kept in good order and repaired / Replaced as required
  • Assist with preparing components for machining operations
  • Working to COSHH regulations, risk assessments and work procedures
  • Stamping and deburring components appropriately
  • Being responsible for individual quality of work
  • Ensuring all tooling removed is documented correctly and then returned to its appropriate location when not in use
  • Keeping records of tooling / toolholders
  • Ensuring equipment is maintained in good working order
  • Ensuring own safety and safety of others
  • Ensuring lifting equipment is safely stored in its appropriate location when not in use
  • Keeping work areas tidy and free from obstacles
  • Participate in the 6S program
  • Working various machines when required to manufacture tooling / fixtures
  • Design / manufacture special tooling when required 
  • Setting up tool store with job specific tooling management structure
  • Following Lean principles PDCA (Plan, Do, Check and Act)
  • Working with operators on set ups when required

Minimum requirements:

  • Semi-skilled in Mechanical Engineering
  • Previous experience of setting tooling for Milling / Turning Centres
  • Previous experience working within a Manufacturing environment
  • Use of industrial measuring equipment
  • Knowledge of imperial measuring scale
  • Health and Safety awareness
  • Flexible attitude to overtime working

Preferred Requirements:

  •  Time served in Mechanical Engineering
  • Abrasive wheels
  • Lifting and slinging
  • Manual handling
  • Understanding of tooling geometry
  • Basic IT skills
